Fumetsu was founded in 2007 by our friend Mike Rios, a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner based in Marbella, out of a very specific personal need: in Europe at that time, it was incredibly difficult to find ear guards and BJJ-specific knee pads, two essential pieces of protection for any jiu-jiteiro.
From that gap in the market, Fumetsu was born — a brand built from inside the tatami to meet the real needs of the European practitioner.
And precisely because it filled that need and felt like a brand that truly got it, Fumetsu was one of the first brands we carried at RoninWear when we started selling online in March 2007.
A few years after its launch, it was acquired by a UK-based company dedicated to the sale and distribution of martial arts and combat sports products.
Today, with nearly two decades behind it, Fumetsu is an established brand covering every combat discipline: BJJ, MMA, boxing, Muay Thai, and wrestling.
Its name — fumetsu (不滅), "everlasting" or "immortal" in Japanese — sums up the philosophy: gear built to withstand the demands of intense, long-term training.
