More and more kids are starting to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. With many similarities to Judo, BJJ is an excellent sport and martial art for the physical and psychological development of children. By practicing this sport, kids interact with other training partners, receive discipline from their instructor, and build self-confidence while engaging in physical activity that helps them develop their motor skills.
Just like with adults, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for kids has a belt ranking system with different colors. In the following link you can learn more about adult BJJ belts.
This system is based on 5 different colors:
- White
- Gray
- Yellow
- Orange
- Green
And except for white, each of the other colors has 3 different belts. First is always the belt of that color with a white stripe in the middle, then the solid color belt, and then with a black stripe in the middle.
In addition, since the IBJJF recommends grading kids every 3 months, the instructor can decide to add 1, 2, or 3 degrees on each belt so that the transition from one belt to the next takes exactly 1 year.
From the age of 16, kids can receive adult belts.
Here we leave you an image that visually explains the belts and the ages.
